Shedding a tear for < html >.

code_snip

As I do more and more online I find that I am using html less and less to accomplish the things I want to do.  Today I needed to make a change to a custom block on our Moodle site and it was the first time in a while that I even looked at any code.

I was one who always, and still does to some extent, feel that learning html is something that any good web designer or webmaster need to know.  When I taught web design it was my bread and butter…. you can always use Dreamweaver if you want, but you need to know what’s underneath.

But as I continue to go about my daily life and work with teacher and other people I find that knowing html is something that is not in the conversation.  With tools like Moodle and WordPress along with all of the other social media tools out on the web, the need to know this forgotten language is minimized. I even find myself looking at tools like Dreamweaver or iWeb as something I could consider deleting off my hard drive to create more room for all my music, pictures and videos.

Call me a geek, call me a nerd, call me what you will but I shed a tear when I thought about it and miss working with my old friend < html >.
