Merging Google Accounts – Failure!

Google Fail

So I “had” two Google account.  One that I had as my personal GMail account, the other was one I used at work.  I thought I would try to keep the two separate, work for work and personal for personal, but it didn’t work.

People were sharing items to both accounts.  I was having to login to check one, only for the document I needed to be in the other…. ugh…. total pain in the butt. So I wanted to merge the two accounts. I had just done this with a few other online, “cloud” based service and I figure Google would have thought of this and I should be able to do it.  Well… not so much.

I looked everywhere with my account setting. Tried added the other email address to see if it would take it and ask me if I wanted to merge the accounts, only to be told there is another account with that email address.

So I discussed it with a few people, search the Internet for some answers and even posted to Twitter to see if anyone would come back with something… nothing.

My thought now was, putting my data management hat on and thinking about the databases I built (because it’s all just one big database… right) that if my email is my unique key and all the items people have shared with me have that “key” in the file somewhere in the file I should be able to add the new email address (key) to my other account and it would all match back up…. whewwwwww.

Again… not so much.

So… I am now emailing all the people who have shared stuff to me at the other account and asking them to re-share the files with me. Thankfully there weren’t to many and I did export all the files before deleting the account. But damn Google make fix that!
