A little effort goes a long way.

So I have been playing with SlideShare (http://www.slideshare.net) to post some of my presentations from the past few months. Most recently I presented to a large group of Educational Technology Coordinators, Directors of Technology and vendors and used SlideShare not only as a tool to post my presentation so that the people there could download it and not have to worry about taking notes.

I also used SlideShare to run the presentation itself.  I pointed out how the presentation and the tools used to create it, Google Docs,  were all free.

Another free tool we have been talking about within this group was the use of Twitter. At our monthly meetings we have been using Twitterl to tweet about what is going on and to highlight topics and sites people are talking about. It is helping the organization share what is going on within the meetings with others, acts as a repository for the items and topics discussed, and help shine more light on what the organization is doing and the service it provides.

On result of this is that the presentation I gave was then featured on the SlideShare web site as what was “Hot on Twitter”. Now I don’t know how SlideShare calculates “What’s Hot”, but I do know that when the email came into my inbox and I say my presentation title on the home page I was excited!

So, what’s my point… well it’s just that when people look at what the reward or return on investment is with social media this is a prime example. The presentation was something that I was doing anyway and posting it to SlideShare took less than a minute. The people that were tweeting about it were doing that on their own.

So, as will everything a little effort and a using the right tool(s) can go a long way toward delivering your message of building your brand.

Hey Stryker — how come so much of what you write is about your geeky computer crap. Don’t you think about more important things like booze, women and sports? I think you might be the guy we used take out back at school and beat down until his pocket protector screamed for mercy … or cried. On top of it all … you’re probably a Democ@#$!

Oh wait … sorry about that Stryker … I lost control for a minute. I’ve just been so euphoric since Scott Brown’s big win in the Bay State. I hope folks realize just how big a political event this is — and appreciate the fact that he may have just saved our collective butts from a future of collectivism.

Really dude … thanks for providing the forum — now some other folks … and I know you’re out there … need to get off their butts and participate in this free for all of ideas. After all, we love the comments of imaginary people, but we can’t read imaginary comments or posts.

OK … I’ll go back to flask now.
